I happened into the Sacred Machine Museum Thursday night after the Leon Russell concert at the Fox and I was quite intrigued by the art hanging and available in books and clothes articles and other little items of memorabilia. My first thoughts connected with Dia de los Muertos celebration iconography because of all the skulls and skeletons. I only stopped briefly but David and his wife Paula were very generous with their time. It was already past closing but since people were still wandering around on Congress and occasionally wandering inside, like me, they were still playing the good hosts and invited me down for the Friday evening bash. Unfortunately, I could not make that because I went to Plaza Palomino to see Michelle Shocked who I found to be a folk-artist of the very highest calibre, both in terms of her lyrics and performance, but also in terms of her spirit which she shared with all those there. I will be at the museum on Saturday so that I can spend a little more time pondering the meanings of art works being displayed. I highly recommend visiting the museum and experiencing downtown Tucson.
